About Bled

Lake Bled and Bled island

You may bathe in the clear waters of Lake Bled from June to September, while strolls along its verdant shores are also a popular pastime. Able muscly oarsmen will take you to the only Slovenian island in typical wooden pletna rowing boats. At the top of the staircase, there is a chapel with a bell which is said to make the wishes of those who ring it true.

Bled castle

For centuries, Bled’s majestic castle has been watching over the lake from atop its steep cliff. From here, wonderful views across the lake, island and surrounding peaks open up. Attractions well-worth a visit at Bled castle include a museum, the castle printer’s, a herbal gallery and a wine cellar, while medieval performances are also attractive. These are held on special occasions and for larger groups. You can get to the castle on foot, by car or by horse-drawn carriage.

Bled golf course

Bled delights golfers with one of the most beautiful courses in central Europe, where your eyes feast on the forested slopes and rocky peaks of the Karavanke Alps. The 18 plus 9-hole golf course features great diversity and is suitable for beginners, amateurs and the most demanding professional players alike.

Vintgar Gorge

Vintgar Gorge is approximately four kilometres from Bled. The wild untamed beauty of the 1.6km gorge may be viewed during a hike along wooden footbridges, where the Radovna river roars beneath you. At the end of the gorge, you will be rewarded with the unique sight of the 16-metre Šum waterfall.

Lake Bohinj and Pokljuka plateau

In the stunning Triglav National Park, not far from Bled, lies tranquil Lake Bohinj, which attracts visitors with its unspoilt natural beauty. Here, we recommend a visit to the St John the Baptist church, a cable car ride up to Vogel or a hike to the fabulous Savica waterfall. You may take the road via the forested Pokljuka plateau for your return journey to Bled, where you will enjoy marvellous views across a thousand shades of green.

Radovljica

Radovljica is renowned for its well-preserved medieval and Renaissance townsmen’s buildings, among which the Šivec house embellished with a 17th-century fresco deserves special mention. An apicultural museum lies in the centre of the town, showcasing the rich heritage of Slovenian apiculture.
