The history of the Belvedere Pavilion goes back to the interwar period. By appointment of the Yugoslav King Alexander, the then-owner of the Vila Bled, the grandest Slovene architect Jože Plečnik designed the plans for a new extensive royal summer residence which was to be built in the immediate vicinity of the villa.
By the outbreak of the war, just stone pillars had been built, and after the war the reception hall – nowadays the Belvedere Pavilion – was completed according to vague plans by Jože Plečnik. Yugoslav President Marshal Tito used the pavilion for tea parties and hosted many eminent guests from around the world here.
